Mat
There
probably isn’t a home kitchen in the world that doesn’t have
a kitchen floor mat. A mat in the kitchen of a home is
standard and it is usually either in front of the sink or
has the kitchen table sitting upon it. There are two reasons
for having these floor coverings in most home kitchens and
one can only surmise that one of these reasons is “color”.
Most people think that by having a mat in the kitchen they
are brightening the room. Kitchen floors are usually tiled,
linoleum or wood and therefore can seem colorless and cold
(which they are). Adding a kitchen floor mat, gives the
floor and by extension, the kitchen, a completely different
feel. Often one will hear guests comment on the mat that
sits under the table. Another reason for these mats is
comfort. Usually the mat that is positioned in front of the
sink is there to provide comfort to the person standing on
it preparing dinner. Standing on a hard surface for too long
can be tiring - the floor mat cushions the feet. There is
also the splash factor. In homes where the dishwasher is
human, there is a constant splashing of water from the sink
as each dish is washed and placed in the rack for draining.
The kitchen mat catches most of this water and stops it
flooding across the tiled floor.
If
you’re looking for a kitchen floor mat that will cover a
wide area then perhaps the Oversized Tropical Comfort Floor
Mat with a tropical island scene embroidered into the mat is
exactly what you’re looking for. The mat’s size is 33.43
inches by 21.56 inches. Made from a nylon and wool
combination, this $40.00 mat will add the aforementioned
color to your kitchen. Another mat for the kitchen and one
that would be ideal placed on the floor in front of the sink
is the chestnut brown GelPro basketweave mat. Retailing at
$200.00 the mat size is 20 inches by 72 inches and is made
from shock absorbing materials such as cork. Clearly this is
an excellent mat to have in any kitchen.
The
array of different kitchen floor mats of the market is just
mind-boggling. If you visit a home center or some other
outlet, you’ll be amazed at what is available. Salespeople
will try to woe you into purchasing the most expensive, but
you must be frugal and think of what you need rather than
what you want. Think of your kitchen’s décor and decide
which mat will enhance the room. Shop wisely and you’ll find
something just right.
